"When the children got off the bus from camp, three or four foster families brought extra suitcases and informed the children that they were moving on to another placement that day! My camp counselors were badly shaken. We had all grown to care for these kids so much over the five days together, and we knew how much they still needed attention and support. How can we do more for our kids the rest of the year?- Royal Family Kids' Camps Director
Royal Friends' Clubs, Inc., was established by For the Children Foundation in 2008 specifically to respond both to the intense emotional need that lonely foster children have for friends and mentors, and to provide a practical answer to thousands of our volunteers who ached to do more for abused children all year long.
Currently in the first year of a three-year Pilot Project Phase, Royal Friends' Clubs provide a national mentor training and resources program specifically designed for foster children ages 7 to 11. The program was launched as a sister organization to Royal Family Kids' Camps, the nation's largest camping program for abused children with over 40,000 children served to date in 36 states. Congregations that have successfully hosted 3 RFKC camps are eligible to apply to host a Royal Friends' Clubs' Mentoring Foster Kids Program in their area. Created as a 'no fee franchise,' Royal Friends' Clubs' mentoring programs are designed to be run on a local basis by neighborhood congregations and community volunteers at no cost to foster children or their families. |
